FOCUSer.net Launch

Posted by scotty on December 8th, 2002 in Announcement

I have been blogging on the Internet for almost 2 years now, using different software at different places and time. Initially I have been using a portal site builder phpWebSite, then I started using a simple content management system PhpWiki. Recently I have started using MovableType, which is a dedicated blogging/publishing tool, and I found it a very attractive package.

So I thought, maybe I will share this with the rest of the FOCUS community – at least provide them the hosting and tool so people in FOCUS can also have their own ad-free blog sites. I registered this domain, focuser.net on 7 Nov 2002 with one purpose – FOCUS community website which everyone, either the current FOCUS partners/regulars or ex-FOCUS who have gong back home, can have their blog space here. People can keep an diary of their walk with the Lord on the cyber space for people to share.

How then is this different from the main FOCUS website? FOCUS website will continue to be the public face of FOCUS, where all the public announcement, sermon outlines, bible studies will be posted there. It will be a site of collaboration, where FOCUS members can come and meet and discuss with each other in the forum, and read about the latest event on the news page. However, FOCUSer.net is focusing on the individual – it will be your own blog space and you can write whatever you like (within limits, of course) in your own space. I am also hoping to design this page, the index page of focuser.net, to be a meta blog that shows all the updates of other FOCUS members’ blogs.

How then can I get a blog site? No automatic on-line tool at the moment. If you are interested, please contact me for more details.

Btw, what exactly is a blog – I can’t find it in the dictionary!!! Here’s the definition:

On a Web site, a blog, a short form of Web log or weblog, is a personal journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or the Web site and its purpose. Topics sometimes include brief philosophical musings, commentary on Internet and other social issues, and links to other sites the author favors. The essential characteristics of the blog are its journal form, typically a new entry each day, and its informal style.

The author of a blog is often referred to as a blogger. People who post new journal entries to their blog may often say they blogged today, they blogged it to their site, or that they still have to blog.
